Devotion
I'm starting to wonder why I have a hard staying devoted to stuff. For example, I joined the gym here where I work back in December. For over 2 months I worked out 2 to 3 days a week. I really enjoyed working out. I felt great doing it, and I slowly started seeing some progress. While I was at the gym, I would run for a while on the treadmill and then lift weights. Over the past few weeks, my days in the gym have dwindled down to about 1 day a week.
Another example... when we went on our ski trip to Colorado, the people there told us not to drink caffeine because it would give us headaches. So I drank lots of water and sports drinks. I knew that I was drinking too many cokes, so I continued this habit for about 1 month. Now, I have reverted back to my 1 to 2 cokes per day habits of old. I was also eating healthier during this time. I didn't eat large portions, and I didn't eat as much fast food.
I've already had 2 cokes today (1 for breakfast and 1 for lunch). I've almost completely quit working out. I have tried to continue the running though. I run 2 or 3 times a week outside near my apartment.
So why can't I motivate myself to get back into the gym? Why can't I quit drinking so many cokes and eating junk? I felt great during that time period of being healthy. Now I'm starting to feel like crap again. I know that it's good for me, and I enjoy doing it. I just can't figure out why I have stopped doing something that I enjoy doing. It doesn't make sense. Can someone help me?
I'm hoping that me bringing this out into the open will be the motivating factor that will push me back into the gym.

I'm telling you, give up the coke. All of it. For me, there was no possible way to limit myself when it came to the number of sodas that I would drink in a day. And frankly, diet never did anything for me. I always needed the real stuff. I think that completely giving up all forms of soda was one of the best things I did for myself. Now, when I look at a coke in a clear glass, it kind of grosses me out.
I also think that when you eat better, it is easier to go to the gym, and vice versa. I have been pretty good in the last couple months, going about 3 times a week. I find that I eat much healthier when I am exercising regularly.
Another tip is to set goals. For example, if youy are running a mile now, tell yourself that in 2 weeks, you want to be able to run 2 miles without walking. When you are working towards something, motivation to work out increases becasue you don't want to fail at your goal.
I'm almost the same way. I find that setting goals is the last thing I need to do, as it really just sets a threshold for failure.
Usually your motivation's greatest enemy is monotony. This is why I absolutely fail at weight lifting; instead I un-hooked a heavybag in my basement and just spent an hour trying to throw it farther, higher, etc. Anything to keep myself from being bored, really.
Also, I like your firefox link :D - nothing like fighting a monopoly with a monopoly.
Cheers.
Don't worry, your coke habit isn't so bad. I do 1 or 2 a day as well, but they're 2 liter bottles.
I think I have an aspartame nodule growing in my head. But I like it.
