It's a BOY!!!
The ultrasound visit yesterday was awesome! My wife's mother came up Tuesday, and my mom and the wife's sister came up yesterday morning. They all wanted to go back to the room with us. Her sister was tickled to death, to be able to go back there. She's 18, and can't wait to be an aunt.
We squeezed into the tiny room and the ultrasound began. The lady squeezed the blue jelly stuff on wifey's belly, put the device up to her belly, and we instantly saw the little fellow. He was breached, so it was going to be much harder to tell if it was a boy or girl. But we got to see everything. The head, brain, its heart beating, arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, spine... everything. It was an amazing moment for us all. After several minutes, we still didn't know the sex. The lady doing the ultrasound started trying to find the baby's bladder, and then all of a sudden he flipped and spread his legs for all of us to see! There was no doubt about it. We are having a boy!
Everybody has always referred to the baby as he or him. We were even doing it in there before we knew. The lady asked us if there was a particular reason why we were doing that, and we said that we just hoped that it was a boy. Then she said "Well you've all been right. It's a boy."
The wife started crying, the mom's started crying. I just said "Yes!" and threw both arms straight up in the air like I'd just scored a touchdown. It was a happy moment.
The phone calls started immediately. I'm sure half of Bowling Green knows by now.
We had a nice celebratory lunch and went to Babies R' Us. The mother-in-law grabbed a cart immediately, and I began to guess how much money would be spent. We looked at the little boy clothes, and everybody collectively went "AWWWWWEEE" at every outfit that was pointed to. Nothing went in the cart though. Then we showed them the crib and changing table that we have picked out. Rockers were next, then strollers, car seats, and other necessities. We finally made it through the entire store. Amazingly, nobody purchased a single thing. I was shocked.
We stopped by Walgreens and made copies of the ultrasound pictures for everybody to take back home. We said our goodbyes, and they all headed to the interstate to go back to Bowling Green.
It was the first time that she and I had been alone all day. We just looked at each other and got all giggly. Now that we were alone, we went to Target and bought a little soft blue teddy bear that plays Brahm's Lullaby. And we bought a frame to put the ultrasound pictures in.
Doing a complete knockoff of Derick's ranking scale of days, this day was a perfect 10.

Great story! Congratulations on the new baby boy. Little boys are something special. Not that I'm biased or anything.
