Speed up Firefox

Most of you know of my love affair with the Firefox browser. If you aren't using it, switch now! You'll thank me later.

My only complaint with it, is that it seems to be slightly slower than IE when it comes to loading pages. But I just discovered an easy tweak, that will speed it up tremendously. Pages load instantly now.

1. Type about:config in the address bar and hit enter.
2. Scroll down until you see "network.http.pipelining". Click on it until the value changes from False to True.
3. Next click on "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" and change the number to anything under 30. I set mine at 15 and that seems to be high enough.
4. Finally, click on "network.http.proxy.pipelining" and change the value from false to true.
5. Close Firefox, and reopen. Start browsing with faster speeds.

You can google "faster firefox" to learn more and to get more detailed directions.

It's working like a charm for me. There are a few sites that I visit that would load a little slow. But not now. It's instant.

You may want to try a version of Firefox that is compiled/built specifically for your processor (AMD and Intel CPUs currently). Take a look here: http://www.moox.ws/tech/mozilla/

These builds add stability, security and speed, though it does take a few days from the time Mozilla releases a build for these custom builds to be posted.

I think this will help only for broadband or dsl users and not for dialup users.
